Terms of Service

In plain words

These terms govern the use of the Kasa Home app (kasahome.pt), operated by Tiago Oliveira ("we", "Kasa Home"). By creating an account, you accept these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

1

What Kasa Home is

Kasa Home is a management and record-keeping tool for shared houses: rent, household bills, notices between landlord and tenants, and a private space between roommates to split expenses and shopping lists.

Kasa Home is not a bank, not a payment institution, and doesn't process real money transfers. The "Paid"/"Received" buttons are a record declared by the people involved themselves — money changes hands outside the app, by whatever means they choose (bank transfer, MB Way, cash). Kasa Home doesn't verify, guarantee, or take responsibility for those transfers actually having happened.

Kasa Home is not a party to the rental agreement between landlord and tenant, or to any agreement between roommates. We don't mediate or resolve disputes — we only provide the record both sides can refer to.

2

Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity that happens under your account.

The information you provide (name, house address, rent amounts, etc.) must be truthful. Don't create fake accounts or houses, or impersonate someone else.

3

Roles: landlord and tenant

Whoever creates a house is that house's landlord: can manage rooms, generate invites, post notices, and see all tenants' rent/bills.

Whoever accepts an invite is a tenant: sees their own rent and the house's bills, and has access to a private space (tenants only) for expenses and a shopping list, invisible to the landlord.

Leaving a house or changing roles always creates a new membership — we never reactivate an old one, so financial history is never contaminated.

5

Plans and pricing

Kasa Home has a free plan, forever, covering the essentials of rent management, household bills, and the private space between roommates. Tenants never pay for Kasa Home.

Kasa Home Pro (monthly or annual subscription, see current pricing in Settings → Kasa Home Pro) unlocks additional features for landlords, such as unlimited houses. We always communicate the price before billing and never charge anything without your explicit confirmation at checkout.

14-day right of withdrawal and waiver: as a consumer resident in the European Union, you'd by default have the right to withdraw from this subscription without giving a reason within the first 14 days. At checkout, you explicitly confirm that you want to start using Kasa Home Pro immediately and that, by doing so, you waive that period — without that confirmation, the subscription doesn't proceed.

Cancelling: you can cancel your subscription at any time in Settings → Kasa Home Pro (managed by Stripe's Customer Portal). Cancellation isn't immediate — you keep Kasa Home Pro access until the end of the period you already paid for (monthly or annual), with no further charges after that. There's no refund for unused time within a period you've already paid for; resubscribing later starts a new subscription.

When Kasa Home Pro ends, your data isn't deleted: your oldest house keeps working with no restrictions, and the others become read-only for you as landlord only (never for your tenants, who keep seeing and using everything normally) until you rejoin Kasa Home Pro or delete those houses.

6

Content you provide and the license you grant us

The data and files you enter (expenses, receipt photos, notices, etc.) remain yours. By using them in Kasa Home, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy and process that content, only to the extent necessary to provide the service (e.g. showing an attached invoice to the people you share that expense with) — never for advertising, never to train third-party models, and never shared outside your house without you choosing to do so.

This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except to the extent we need to keep a record — for example, so we don't break another person's financial history in the same house, or because of a legal obligation to retain tax records (see the Privacy Policy, section 7).

You're responsible for the content you post (e.g. a notice's text, an attached invoice) and you confirm you have the right to share it.

7

Kasa Home's intellectual property

The Kasa Home brand, logo, app design and source code are owned by us or our licensors, protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. These terms don't give you any right over them beyond what's needed to use the app normally.

You may not copy, modify, decompile, reverse-engineer, scrape data in an automated way, or create derivative works from the app, except to the extent the law mandatorily allows it despite this restriction.

8

Service availability

We work to keep Kasa Home available, but don't guarantee continuous, uninterrupted availability — there may be maintenance, technical issues, changes to the app, or reasons outside our reasonable control (e.g. failures of infrastructure providers we depend on).

We take reasonable steps to protect your data, but no system is infallible. We recommend keeping your own copies of important records (e.g. rental contracts) outside the app too.

9

Limitation of liability

Kasa Home is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we're not liable for financial disputes between landlords and tenants or between roommates, for decisions made based on information entered by other users, or for indirect damages resulting from use of the app.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that can't be legally excluded (e.g. in case of willful misconduct or gross negligence).

10

Suspension and termination

You can stop using Kasa Home at any time. To request deletion of your account, email suporte@kasahome.pt (see the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data afterwards).

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with prior notice whenever reasonably possible — except in serious cases or ones requiring immediate action (e.g. fraud, security risk), where we may act without prior notice.

If you disagree with a suspension or termination, you can contest it by emailing suporte@kasahome.pt; we review the case manually.

11

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app evolves. The date at the top shows the last update. For material changes, we'll give at least 30 days' notice by email; continuing to use Kasa Home afterwards means you accept the new terms. If you disagree with a material change, you can close your account before it takes effect.

12

Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by Portuguese law. In case of dispute, Portuguese courts have jurisdiction, without prejudice to your right, as a consumer resident in the European Union, to bring proceedings before the courts of your country of residence.

If you'd like to try resolving a consumer dispute outside of court, you can use the EU's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr, or a consumer alternative dispute resolution body in Portugal (e.g. the Lisbon Consumer Conflict Arbitration Centre).

13

Assignment and severability

You may not assign or transfer your rights and obligations under these terms to a third party. We may assign or transfer this agreement in the context of a sale, merger, or restructuring of our business, without reducing the rights these terms give you.

If any provision of these terms is found invalid or unenforceable by a court, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
